Sony Japan surprised visitors at the Tokyo Game Show today, by announcing that they’ll be selling the Playstation 3 for less than originally planned. The cheaper 20GB model was originally meant to be 62,790 yen ($340/£284), but will now be 49,980 yen ($430/£226). Sony president Ken Kutaragi explained, “If people keep saying it’s expensive, we may not be able to create the dream that PS3 is aiming for.” Kutaragi made his announcement in a bid to appeal to holiday season shoppers. The Playstation 3 is released 11th November in Japan, and 17th November in the United States, but with the Nindendo Wii due before Christmas too, the battle is on!
