Virtual reality with touch

A team at the Nara Institute of Science and Technology in Tokyo has introduced a virtual-reality game enhanced by touch. The prototype game resembles the movie Ghostbusters, where players carry a light vacuum cleaner, and hunt for virtual reality ghosts in a room. When a ghost is spotted glowing, it can then be sucked up by the vacuum. Numerous sensors are placed around the room that detects the position of the vacuum and the light of the ghost. When the two meet, the hose of the vacuum vibrates and water enters the bag to give the sensation of a successful capture. The group aim to improve the technology to produce even more realistic features in games in the future.
