NTT DoCoMo P903i self-locking phone
13th October, 2006 by manda
NTT DoCoMo, the predominant mobile phone operator in Japan, announced today that they’re launching a mobile handset that automatically locks itself when distanced from the owner. The P903i phone is paired with an electronic card that can be slipped into the owner’s wallet or handbag. This means that if the handset is stolen, lost or simply left behind, the signal between the two is lost and the phone is deactivated. NTT DoCoMo is also trialing a feature to trace lost handsets via a satellite-based navigation service. Go go DoCoMo!

Is the security aspect of the phone patented, or did NTT use existing technology in their
wireless connection from and to the security card to the phone???? I could not find a U.S. patent
involving assignee NTT relative to the instant subject matter.
