Shogi championship kicks off in California

The two champions of Shogi, a Japanese variant of chess, are fighting it out for the prestigious Dragon King title of the game in San Francisco. Of the seven shogi championships, this tournament is the most important. Around 20 million people in Japan play shogi, and the aim is to promote the game outside the country. The winner of the Dragon King title also takes home 35,804,338 yen ($300,000/£161,390).
