Fujitsu Ten traffic accident recorder
29th November, 2006 by stuart
Fujitsu Ten, the motoring arm of Fujitsu, has developed a “car-mounted system capable of recording the scene and sounds of a traffic accident”. The device, collectively called the DREC1000, consists of a camera, a microphone and a recording unit. The device also has a sensor that allows it to detect when there’s any gravitational change, such as sudden braking or hitting another car. This starts the device recording, and allows it to capture sound and images for 12 seconds before and 8 seconds after an accident. The camera’s 134-degree wide-angle lens allows the DREC1000 to “capture images of a collision diagonally to the front of the car.” All for 59,850 yen (264/$514).

Since the camera is wide angle,it would be best for the recording to start capturing images once the car starts moving, with option to stop recording when vehicle is stop eg:infront of traffic light. Before and after recording involving accident with such a 14+ seconds does make any sense…….
