Bilk: beer made from milk
1st February, 2007 by manda
A brewery in Hokkaido is launching a low-malt beer using milk, after dairy firms found they were discarding a lot of it. Much attention was put into the boiling and fermentation due to the differences in using milk instead of water. A local resident used in the tasting trials said, “It’s got a fruity taste, so it will probably go well with sweets as well.” Apparently, due to the fruity taste they expect the beer to be popular with women, or maybe this is just based on this one lady’s comments. The beer, simply and amusingly called Bilk, will be launched on 1st February, selling for 380 yen ($3.15/£1.60) per 330 ml bottle.
