Ratings for Prime Minister Shinzo Abe have taken a dive since he first took office in September. It’s hoped that new promotional items like mugs, pens and phone straps will help return his 70% opinion-poll rating that recently fell to 40%. A Liberal Democratic spokesperson said, “We hope the goods can help his support ratings to recover.” The mugs and notepads are priced 500 yen ($4.13/£2.91) each, while the phone straps are 1000 yen ($8.26/£4.20).
