Tokyo citizens wrongly receive earthquake email
2nd February, 2007 by stuart
ITworld report that a test of a new earthquake notification system in Tokyo accidentally sent out emails to 1,800 people stating that a “moderately strong earthquake” had been registered. The email continued to say, “beware of aftershocks. Check that fire-prone areas are secure and remain calm”. After realizing their error a few minutes later, officials sent another email letting everyone know that their house wasn’t actually about to shake to the ground. Interestingly, the article also mentions Yahoo! Japan’s news quake alert system that turns all their banner ads into warnings and safety info. Good work!
