I.D. for tobacco vending machines
7th February, 2007 by manda
Smoking is widespread in Japan, with 50% of men lighting up along with 15% of women. In an attempt to reduce the number of minors buying cigarettes, the Japan Tobacco Association is installing adult identification units on their cigarette vending machines. Cigarettes can currently be bought at any of 62,000 machines without any restrictions, allowing 11% of the customers to be underage. From 8th March, a Taspo card, which proves your age, will be needed by people to buy cigars or cigarettes legally.
