Ubinko, the fire-prevention robot

Tmsuk, Kyushu University, and the Kanazawa Institute of Technology already caused a stir with their blue and green hospital receptionist robots. Now they’ve added a red fire prevention robot to the team. Ubiko uses its robot nose or “olfactory sensors specifically tuned to detect the odors of smoke and ash” to determine the source of a possible fire. Unfortunately, the robot can’t actually put the fire out; it can only alert the relevant authorities. Or melt.
